“Dig deep, no excuses” would sum it up in the shortest way possible. More often than not, our inability to make fitness a priority in life are not due to legitimate reasons, but excuses we have allowed ourselves to buy into over the years. When we dig deep, not only do we face our fears, but we find strength to press on and push through our self-perceived limitations.
Melissa is the voice behind The Melissa Chronicles, a blog about the (mis)adventures of a thirty-something mother runner chasing down a healthy life. Growing up, she didn't really struggle with her weight. Over the years, however, the balancing act of wife, mother, full time employee, and volunteer were catching up to her. Forty was around the corner, and she weighed the same as she did nine months pregnant (with her now sixteen year old). She began running to lose some weight and a few months later, ran her first 5k. She was hooked.
Within six months, she lost twenty pounds and signed up for her first half marathon. She added weight training and cardio classes into the mix, and even conquered her fear of heights by adding rock climbing as well (indoors, of course!).
While the numbers on the scale may fluctuate, they do not determine the identity of this Sporty Girl. In spite of an already busy life, she is training for her first full marathon and has no plans to slow down. Not only has she reclaimed her life and her health, she has found her voice and hopes to motivate, inspire and encourage other women to live a Sporty Girl life.
