5 Tips for putting together cute, casual fall outfits for women

Fall's the season for football, tailgating and cuddling up in front of the fireplace with a warm cup of cocoa. These activities don't exactly scream "high fashion," but that doesn't mean sweatpants and old, worn out jeans are the only option. Check out these tips for putting together cute, casual fall outfits for women.

1. Choose bright colors

There's no rule that says fall needs to be dominated by black, brown, navy and forest green. Let summer style carry over into fall by choosing pants and blazers in bold shades of red, yellow and aquamarine. You can always tone the bright colors down by pairing them with more neutral shades. While bright skinny jeans are a definite trend for fall, there's no reason you shouldn't keep things more comfortable with the classic, wide-leg pant.

2. Opt for fitted, graphic tanks

Save your shapeless, long-sleeve tees for game day or cleaning day. As long as the weather's still mild, choose interesting, shoulder-baring tank tops that you can layer under blazers, cardigans or sweaters. Look for interesting, graphic tops that are easily dressed up or down. We love rocker tanks and sequined racerbacks that blend sporty with sexy for an eye-catching appeal.

3. Look for outerwear with interest

As comfortable as it is, your guy's XXL college football sweatshirt just isn't that flattering. That doesn't mean you're relegated to choosing confining or uncomfortable sweaters when the temperature drops. Look for body-skimming pullovers that are designed to conform to the women's body while offering visual interest, like graphic designs, contrasting stitching or flashy buttons. You'll be super comfortable but you'll still look like you tried - everybody wins!

4. Buy simple pieces with bling

These days you can find just about anything decked out in sequins, Swarovski crystal or a metallic finish. While you may be hesitant to get blinged-out on a Saturday as you hang around the house, a little bit of flash can go a long way toward jazzing up your style. Look for skate shoes, a wide wrist cuff or tops with a little bit of bling that you can tone down with your favorite pair of jeans. Hints of faux fur are another cute way to up the ante on casual fall fashion.

5. Have fun with accessories

Well chosen accessories can turn just about any outfit from "not" to "hot." Keep things casual by choosing slouchy hobo bags, leather- or fabric-wrapped jewelry, infinity scarves or bucket hats, but spice them up by choosing bold colors and patterns. There's no need to worry about wearing patterns that clash - that's the latest style! Just don't pair two overly-bold or busy patterns side-by-side.
