Looking for easy holiday nail ideas? While red, green and gold may scream "Christmas," you don't have to limit yourself to those colors when dazzling up your nails for your company Christmas party. Consider going dark, with a little bit of sparkle, for a subtly festive holiday look. Black, burgundy, navy and gray are all perfect undertones for a glittery polish. That said, multiple coats of nail lacquer take longer to dry. If you're the type of woman who struggles to sit still long enough to allow multiple coats of polish to dry, try using a quick dry nail system like Dazzle Dry. We gave it a shot for this nail tutorial and the base coat, three color coats and top coat were rock hard within five minutes of finishing the manicure. Hot nails with quick results -- it's a Christmas miracle!
Step 1: Gather your supplies
Grab your base coat, top coat, solid color and glitter polish. We used:
- Dazzle Dry Nail Prep
- Dazzle Dry Base Coat
- Dazzle Dry Forbidden Passion (a deep, dark burgundy)
- Dazzle Dry Amethyst (a purple glitter polish)
- Dazzle Dry Quick Dry Top
If you're using Dazzle Dry, you'll also want a cotton ball, cotton pad or Q-tip to apply the Nail Prep product.
Step 2: Start with a blank canvas
Wash your hands and pat them dry. If you're using Dazzle Dry, use your cotton pad or Q-tip to apply the Nail Prep to the surface of all your nails. Allow the Nail Prep to fully dry (takes about 30 seconds).
Step 3: Apply a base coat
Apply a base coat to your nails - this will help your nail color go on smoothly and evenly. Just remember, a base coat and top coat aren't the same thing. If you're using Dazzle Dry, your base coat should appear clear. If it looks cloudy, submerge it in warm water until it un-gels and liquifies. Allow the base coat to completely dry after application. For Dazzle Dry, this took approximately two minutes. The result was a matte finish.
Step 4: Apply a solid color
Apply a single coat of dark, solid color. Even if your polish doesn't go on evenly, there's no need to apply two coats because the glitter polish will hide any discrepancy in coloration. Allow the color to completely dry. This took about two minutes using Dazzle Dry.
Step 5: Apply glitter polish in a slight gradient
Start by applying a thin coat of glitter polish to the entire nail. This will give a slightly matte finish to the base color while adding a hint of glimmer all over. After allowing the first coat of glitter polish to dry, add a second coat of glitter polish, concentrating the polish on only the top third of each nail. This will make the tips of your nails shine with a brighter glitter gradient.
Step 6: Apply a glossy top coat
Finish off your holiday manicure with a glossy top coat. This will help protect your polish from chipping while also providing a smooth, glossy finish to your manicure. Allow your manicure to completely dry. This took approximately five minutes with the Dazzle Dry top coat.
