Five easy-to-assemble sporty costumes

Five easy-to-assemble sporty costumes

Halloween is upon us and if you’re still deciding what to wear for the big day, have no fear! Whether you’re looking to buy, or want to pull together something from your own closet, here are five easy-to-assemble sporty costumes. Don’t sacrifice showing the world you’re a tough and sporty girl, even if it is Halloween.

Katniss Everdeen

A Katniss Everdeen costume can come right out of your own closet. There is no need to purchase the official training shirt and jacket to transform into this modern day super hero.

Clothing: Black rain repellent coat or a tan leather jacket with a black v-neck tee underneath. For pants, army green, black or even dark skinny jeans tucked into black combat boots or tall brown leather boots will pull off the look.

Hair: Wear your hair in a side braid and even let your bangs and some flyaways fall around your face to really give the “surviving in the wilderness” impression.

Accessories: For the bow and arrow set, it’s time to get creative. You may want to scour your child’s play room for a bow and arrow toy. Or go to buycostumes.com to purchase one for $10. An easy DIY project could be to gather up some twigs from the backyard, fasten makeshift arrowheads on top, and stick them out of a black book bag. To do this, you could cut out cardboard triangles and cover them with aluminum foil. It is perfect if don’t want to carry a bow and arrow set around all night and it wouldn’t require any purchases.

The Fab 5

These girls dominated their gymnastic competition and stole our hearts at the Summer Games. Luckily, these reigning sporty girls have an easy look to recreate.

Clothing: A red, blue or pink leotard. You can find adult size selection at leotardworld.com for $34. For a cheaper solution, a red one-piece swimsuit could do the trick. If you don’t want to go pant-less, throw on some lose, plain black athletic pants. Wear your favorite trainers and you’re set!

Hair: Pull that hair back in a tight bun with a red or white scrunchie.

Accessories: Make a homemade medal with some gold painted aluminum foil, or search through medals you may have won. Fasten it onto a purple ribbon. To completely nail the look, wrap your wrists or ankles with medical tape.

(Don’t forget to pose with the Kayla Maroney’s “Not Impressed” face in pictures for the night!)

Rosie the Riveter

Roll up your sleeves and keep flexing those muscles all night!

Clothing: A red bandana, button-down denim shirt, black pants or jeans and combat boots is really all you need.

Hair: Wear your hair in a bun with the bandana securing it back. Leave a slight swoop in your bangs and let the curl stick out in front of the headscarf.

Beauty: Complete the look with bright red lips and nails.

Accessories: To really bring the 1940s to life, carry along a lunch pail.

Football Player

For the ultimate do-it-yourself costume, grab your man’s jersey!

Throw on a football jersey, black leggings, high tops and eye black under your eyes for a simple and effective costume. Don’t forget to carry along a football for the quickest ensemble out there. Or if you're a bigger baseball fan, wear baseball pants, with a jersey, high knee socks and a baseball cap. Carry along your man’s glove for the finished look. These are perfect ideas for chilly weather because you can simply add a thermal long sleeved tee under the jersey to keep warm all night.
