Ladies gym bag review: Lilypond Sundown bag

What girl doesn't love a cute bag? And if you're a sporty girl, that includes gym bags, too! That's why I've got a great ladies gym bag review for you. The Lilypond Sundown bag is big and versatile enough to work as a weekend bag, but it incorporates high-performance features that make it perfect for the gym. Read on to learn all this bag has to offer.

About Lilypond

Lilypond is dedicated to creating functional, attractive bags that resonate with women without over-taxing the environment. All of Lilypond's bags are made from a proprietary, 100% recycled fabric called CYCLEPOND. This fabric is made from some of the 150 billion plastic water bottles discarded into landfills every year, effectively reducing waste. Lilypond also works with women around the country who are committed to making a difference. To learn about these women and their causes - including organizations like Oceana, High Country Conservation, SheJumps and more - check out the Lilypond catalog, read their stories and browse through all of the Lilypond products.

Before I get to the video review, I'd like to cover the basics of the Sundown bag. First of all - it's cute. I'm a big fan of neutral bags that feature a bright pop of color, and the Nightfall color scheme didn't disappoint. While the bag itself is grey, the zippers, pockets and interior lining are all a fun orange color with just a hint of pink. And, at 24" long, 10" wide and 13" tall, the bag is compact enough to use as a carry-on for a quick out of town trip, but is definitely big enough to hold lots of stuff. It was this carrying capacity that inspired me to put together a Mary Poppins-style video review for you. While you can witness the awesomeness yourself, here are just a few of the things I was able to pull out of the bag:

  • 4 Pairs of shoes (running shoes, slippers, high heels and rock climbing shoes)
  • Boxing gloves
  • 3 shirts and a lightweight jacket
  • An extra pair of workout capris
  • An extra sports bra
  • Jeans
  • A jump rope
  • A Jungle Gym XT suspension trainer
  • Every single beauty supply a girl could possibly need (except a hair dryer)
  • And more!

Go ahead, you know you want to see for yourself! >>

The one thing that I failed to mention in the video that I want to share here is that the mesh cover on the interior wet bag is much more sturdy than your typical gym bag. Most mesh pocket covers seem to be made from...well...mesh fabric. This pocket cover has more of a plastic feel (although I'm unsure of the exact material it's made from), so it helps maintain the structure of the bag and is less prone to stretching.

The Sundown bag's MSRP is $99.00, although some online retailers do appear to sell it for less. Lilypond bags are available for purchase at numerous online and brick-and-mortar retailers nationwide, including stores like Backcountry.com and Duluth Trading Company.

While you can seriously use this bag for just about anything (moms, it could make a great diaper bag!), I think it's perfect for women traveling out of town for weekend sporting events. Whether you're on a team that's doing a long-distance relay race, or you're heading out of state for a tennis tournament, this bag will be able to handle workout gear, shoes and a few extra items without requiring the hassle of a bigger duffle bag. This is especially great when you're short on space (sharing a van with 20 other women!) or you want to avoid checking a bag. All-in-all, it gets two thumbs up.
