Stand Up 2 Cancer telecast: Why you should watch

On September 7th from 8:00-9:00 pm (ET/PT), Stand Up 2 Cancer will be hosting it's third SU2C primetime television fundraising event to bring together some of the biggest names in the world to help raise awareness about cancer research. These days it's easy to tune out what's on the TV, opting for shows you've DVRed or clicking through funny YouTube animal videos, but here are a few reasons why you should stop, tune in and get involved in the fight against cancer.

Cancer affects everyone.

Even if you haven't been touched by cancer yet, you will at some point in your life. The odds of a man developing cancer in his life are 1 in 2. The odds of a woman developing cancer: 1 in 3. Even if you're lucky enough to avoid the disease yourself, where does that leave the people you love? Cancer doesn't discriminate. Just check out this SU2C trailer to see how it's affected some of the biggest names in showbiz.

The telecast is legitimately entertaining.

Whether or not you're a pop-culture addict, you will recognize the names and faces of the actors, musicians, athletes and entertainers gracing the stage during the SU2C telecast. Plus, you won't even have to worry about dealing with commercial breaks -- the major networks are all donating their advertising time to create a more appealing event.

More research is necessary.

This year, roughly 1.63 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer and roughly 572,000 will die of the disease. That's a lot of moms, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins! There's no debating the fact that cancer research has come a long way, but with so many variations of the disease, much more research is required. Of the public funds raised by SU2C, 100 percent of them go to fund Innovative Research Grants.

TSU2C K-Swiss Fitness Gearhere's more than one way to participate.

There are lots of ways to donate to the cause, but SU2C has gone out of their way to appeal to a broad range of viewers, including athletes. In addition to taking cash donations by phone, web and text message, they've also teamed up with K-Swiss to offer athletic apparel including triathlon bibs, running shoes and more. Five dollars of every purchase is donated to cancer research. Plus, you'll have cute, attractive gear you can wear to your next event, helping raise even more cancer awareness. Check out their online store or shop in-store at local Finish Line retailers during the month of September.

Who do you stand up to cancer for? I stand up for my dad, my uncles and my grandmom.
